West Bamfield Boardwalk History
Before it was a stroll, the boardwalk was how West Bamfield got to work.
A working route
The old photos put the boardwalk next to the Co-op and the fishing fleet. People walked it for work, errands, and boats — not for the view, though the view was there anyway.
Sea Bee and the Co-op
The photos come with names: the Sea Bee Boardwalk, the Bamfield Co-op. If you know which stretch was which, the archive wants to hear from you.
The pace has not changed
Visitors still walk it slowly, watch the water, and pass buildings old and new. The difference is the errands are now optional.
Timeline
- The working years: The boardwalk connects docks, Co-op, boats, homes, and daily village movement.
- The fleet years: Fishing shapes the walk — gear, catches, crews, and waiting.
- Today: The same walk, now the village's front porch.
