Your camping permit, done here

Camping overnight in the Deer Group or the Broken Group Islands takes a permit. Do the application here, in the same sitting as your waiver — when you book your kayaks, or before.

Where you need one

  • Deer Group Islands — Huu-ay-aht First Nations — Huu-ay-aht Treaty Settlement Lands. Overnight camping in the Deer Group is on Huu-ay-aht Treaty Settlement Lands and needs a Huu-ay-aht camping permit. Campsites you can apply for: Haines Island, Diana — Kirby Point SW, Helby, Sarita Lake — South/51km, Sarita Lake — North/50km. Permit fee: $10.50 per person, per night, including GST. Stays are limited to 14 days within any 30-day period. Allow up to 10 business days.
  • Broken Group Islands — Tseshaht First Nation — Tseshaht ḥaḥuułi (traditional territory). Overnight camping in the Broken Group Islands, in Tseshaht territory. Campsite reservations run through Parks Canada today. Reserve your Broken Group campsites through Parks Canada. When Tseshaht First Nation issues permits through Experience, this becomes one form like the Deer Group.

Paddling Bamfield Inlet for the day, or anywhere else on Barkley Sound, needs no camping permit.

How it works

  • Say where and when. Tick where you are paddling, then choose your campsites and your nights.
  • Add your photo ID and sign once. It is the same form as your rental waiver, so you do it one time.
  • Get your application number, then your permit. Your application is filed the moment you sign and you see its number straight away. We email and text you when your permit is issued — print it from your trip page and bring it with you.

Paddling as a group?

Start it once, then invite everyone from your trip page. Each paddler does their own waiver, photo ID and application on their own phone, before anyone rents — and you see who is done.

Start your application

You do not need to have booked your kayaks yet. Start now and it is waiting on your trip page when you do.

Give your name, your email, the night you arrive and the morning you leave; you then confirm your email, choose your campsites and sign.
